Mary Place Godsey
On September 15, 2019, we lost our precious CIWA member and friend; our Poet-In-Residence, Mary Place Godsey.
A celebration of Mary’s life was held Sunday, October 6. A lifelong Hoosier, Mary lived most of her adult life in Indianapolis. Her two degrees, from prestigious Indiana Universities, allowed Mary to share her talents as a high school teacher and work for the legislative and judicial branches of state government.
Mary’s family and friends were blessed with her gifts of compassion, kindness and love — and her smile. Mary’s love and passion for words resonated in the heartfelt poems she shared. She was a beloved member of CIWA and lead the Garfield Park Poetry Circle.
Her poems are published in issues of Poetry Garden, The Advocate, Branches, Tipton Poetry Journal, and in Midwest Poets. She served as a poetry editor and participated in Poetry in Motion programs.
On behalf of CIWA we offer our deepest condolences as we mourn her passing and celebrate her life. We will miss our kind and loving friend, but she will always be with us through her poems
Some of her poems can be found on her memorial page.
On November 18, 2019, come to the CIWA meeting and “take care of business”.
It’s that time of year when CIWA adds the word “business” to its program and requires a moment to cover the necessary agenda to take us into the new year with success. November holds the tradition of seeing meeting times aside for voting on next year’s officers.
A slate of proposed officers will be presented and the floor will be opened for addition nominations. We will then vote on the final 2020 proposed slate. It takes willing volunteers to have such an awesome group as CIWA. Could it be you?
And we will be looking for hosts for the 2020 monthly meetings. CIWA is always open for attendee participation.
Join us 6:00 PM for a meet and greet at GPL. Meeting will begin at 6:30 PM.
See regular monthly page for details.
And don’t forget to check our contest page for the CIWA 2019 Words on Paper contest. Details on the contest page.
