About CIWA

We’re a not-for-profit multi-genre organization for published and unpublished writers. Our members are from Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Montana, and Florida.

We are a community of writers headquartered on the south side of Indianapolis. Our goal is to provide an atmosphere of nurturing and encouragement for those who wish to hone their writing skills. We welcome and encourage nonmembers to attend our meetings. We’re a friendly informal group of people, and we guarantee that you will be comfortable on your first visit and will want to return and consider membership.

Our members are novelists, poets, and essayists writing in all genres. We meet once a month and provide our members with a host of different activities. Past meetings have included the introduction of guest speakers, including local authors, award-winning poets and writing tutors.

A short story contest is held at the end of each year, which attracts entries from all over the Midwest.

In addition to all of the above, great friendships are nurtured generating the feeling of a family and not of an organization. We keep growing stronger and better–and as with most things, we are getting better with age!

Our monthly newsletter, The Communique, provides our members with information regarding writing opportunities, other contest events and a vehicle in which their own writing may be published.
