Central Indiana Writers\u2019 Association<\/mark><\/strong>, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1976, is a community of novelists, poets, and essayists writing in all genres. We come together once a month and provide our members with a host of different activities and support. Everyone is welcome!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And while CIWA encourages every writer to continue writing, we do not support any form of pornography, erotica, or BDSM writing. There are writing groups for those genres elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet Melissa Fraterrigo…<\/em><\/strong><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Melissa Fraterrigo\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0memoir,\u00a0The Perils of Girlhood,<\/em>\u00a0was published by the University of Nebraska Press in Fall 2025 and was named by Literary Hub as one of \u201c100 Notable Small Press Books of 2025.\u201d She is also the author of the novel\u00a0Glory Days\u00a0<\/em>(University of Nebraska Press), which was named one of \u201cThe Best Fiction Books of 2017\u201d by the\u00a0Chicago Review of Books,<\/em>\u00a0as well as the short story collection\u00a0The Longest Pregnancy<\/em>\u00a0(Livingston Press). Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies from\u00a0storySouth\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Shenandoah\u00a0<\/em>to\u00a0Notre Dame Review, Sou\u2019wester,<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Millions<\/em>. She teaches creative writing at Purdue University, in the Butler University MFA in Creative Writing program, and is also the founder and executive director of the Lafayette Writers\u2019 Studio in Lafayette, Indiana, where she offers classes on the art and craft of writing.
